The Italian artist Marina Ester Castaldo has created a universe made of imaginary and secret sceneries. Combining bold and saturated colours and intuitive shapes, her vibrant work reflects the contrasts and energy of southern Italy, aiming to capture raw emotions and everyday beauty.
From her studio in London, UK, Marina works with both digital and traditional techniques. On paper or canvas she works mainly with acrylic and gouache paint. She loves exploring the way colours work together and find new combinations capable of evoking feelings in her viewers.
“I often choose just one colour as starting point and then I look at the canvas and intuitively decide what comes next. I love to keep the process interesting and alive.”
“My inspiration comes from the daily life and the nature that surrounds us but when it’s time to sketch or create the baseline for a new artwork, I always like to start from a simple line and then build, step by step, an imaginary place and see it slowly taking shape. I like thinking about people finding their secret space, their hidden safe and happy place when looking at my landscapes”.
